[LC summary Ch.6 18-22]

In this conversation, Professor had meeting with student for encouraging the student to participate more in class discussions. She answered with detail and did assignment well in this seminar. But she was not good at participating in discussion with other students. She thought that she doesn't have background in a subject and her major is mathematics, so she only have one correct answer. But, professor said that the main objective of the seminar is learning with other opinions from each other. Also, he encouraged her to share her thoughts on the topic from last week's lecture and let her know that she had her own point.

Chapter 6. 23~28 Summary

In the part of a lectur on biology, professor exlained bacteria communication. It was the first to be founded by a student Ken Nealson. He were studying these bacteria called Vibrio fischeri, the bioluminescent bacteria don't make any light until they have detected a large enough number of other bacteria through quorum sensing. As anotehr perspective, bacteria can attack to us by releasing toxins. Although a small amount of bacteria can't threaten our immune system, they can detect enough autoinducers through quorum sensing and decide to release their toxins at once. So, medical research departments are concentrating on learning how to hack the bacteria communication system to prevent lots of medical conditions.

Chapter 6. 29~34 Summary

In this lecture on geography, professor is discussing lakes of the Rub' al- khali. There is almost completely barren now, but that wasn't always the case. There is a lot of geological evidence showing how it was different long ago.

Scientists speculates that monsoon rains poured over the Arabian desert. As a result, geological records said taht threre were two distnct sets of lakes in the area : the order lake and the newer lake. To be specific, some sort of climate change would have transformed sand dune characteristic, which form lakebveds. Another evidence that the area was not always barren is the fossils found near each set of lakes. Specifically, the various types of fossils show the relation of the size of the lakes in desert long ago.
